Why Choose PVC Flat Roofing?

Commercial roofs are notoriously leak-prone thanks to their low slope. Remember: Water ponds on flat surfaces. To lower the risk of leaks, it’s important to choose a roofing material that can handle your area’s climate.

There are several reasons why PVC flat roofing is one of the most widely used commercial roofing materials. The Great American Roofing Company, your trusted roofing company, lists them below:

Energy Efficiency and Eco-Friendliness

An energy-efficient roof is more of a necessity, especially given that cooling and heating costs comprise a significant chunk of a building’s cooling and heating costs. To increase a building’s energy efficiency, it’s highly recommended that you install a light-colored roofing membrane. The closer a shade is to white, the more heat it reflects, and the lower the strain on your HVAC system. PVC flat roofing membranes come in a wide variety of colors, including white.

As an added benefit, PVC flat roofing is also a great eco-friendly option if you’re trying to go green.  Since PVC roofing is 100% recyclable, discarded roofing membranes won’t end up in landfills, reducing your building’s environmental impact.

Excess weight load shouldn’t be a problem for a PVC roof replacement. The American Society of Testing and Materials has set the minimum breaking strength for roofing membranes at 200 pounds per inch, but the load-bearing capacity of the average PVC flat roof is well above that at 350 pounds per inch.

Keep in mind that while PVC roofs are more resistant to damage caused by excess weight loads, it has the same maintenance needs as other types of flat roofs. For instance, ponding shouldn’t be left unattended on a flat roof for more than 48 hours. Otherwise, stagnant water will seep into your roof’s underlayers.  And over time, the added weight load from standing water can damage even a PVC flat roof.

Important note: If you notice leaks or ceiling stains in your building, you should contact a professional roofer as soon as possible. Remember: Moisture damage can easily affect other parts of the building if it’s addressed immediately. The sooner commercial roof repair is conducted, the better.

One more thing: If you’re planning to install a PVC roof, make sure to vet a roofer before hiring them.
